ANTIQUE ENGLISH BLUE AND WHITE MOLDED JUG WITH LID C. 1800'S
I have been told and also read that these jugs were used for steeping toast in hot water, much like brewing tea. The jug is similar in looks to Wedgwood and it has their blue coloring, but is unmarked on the bottom. Probably, it's from one of the Staffordshire manufacturers as several used the same blanks. The pattern on the body, on one side, depicts three cherubs, two riding on a wagon being pulled by two dogs ridden by the third cherub. Under the spout, you'll find Venus standing on her half shell with yet another little cherub to keep her company and the other side shows three little sweeties with bows and arrows. The jug and lid are trimmed with grape vines. Wonderful detail on the handle, spout and lower body.   Condition: excellent   Size:  8 1/2"h x 9 1/2" w
