AMERICAN LATE FEDERAL CANOPY BED C. 1815-1830
Beautifully carved mahogany tester bed, c. 1815-1830, from the estate of Percy V. Hill, a prominent Augusta, Maine businessman during the early 1900's. Restored 75 years ago when it was given to another Augusta family and refinished at that time. The rails have angle irons to hold a box spring.(Removed for the picture) Front posts are beautifully carved with rope turnings and acanthus leaves. Back posts are plain as was frequently the custom on these four poster beds. Condition: very good  Size: Outside measurement: 57"W. x 80"L Inside measurement: 51.5"W. x x 72.5"L. Height: 81" to top of canopy

LATE FEDERAL SALT BOX C. EARLY 1800'S
Late 1700's New England salt box with wonderful cutout work on the top. Mahogany wood with naive inlay on the upper front and the drawer. Salt over the years has oxidized the square nails which discolored the surrounding wood. This piece has a charming quality as it tries to emulate the finer salt boxes of the period, however, it's a country piece made with loving care and shows its age. Size: 18"h x 9"w x 6"d
