Even though the paint has chipped or worn off these Federal chairs, they still have a wonderful appeal and I would classify them as having a look of genteel poverty rather than shabby chic. The wear is similar on each one. They have an ochre background with black and raw sienna detailing. The main characteristic of these chairs is the small raw sienna balls between the slender cross rails of the back and between the front stretcher. They're both glued tightly.
